Sue and Dwight - June 2011 News

May 31st, 2011 by Sue

It’s June tomorrow…one of the four months with only 30 days and the longest daylight hours of the year in the Northern Hemisphere! What initially started out as a blank canvas gig-wise, because we thought we’d be away, has ended up with a nice selection of shows to look forward to. Here are the details if you happen to be in the Toronto area…

Fri., June 3, 8-9:30pm, PAL - Crest Theatre Green Room, 110 The Esplanade, Toronto, ON; 8th Annual Hootenanny; Donation at the door in support of P.P.R.A. and the PAL Supporting Cast; Hope you can join us for this fun evening of music. Look who else will be performing…Brent Titcomb, Kent Bowman, Herman Rombouts, Bob and Sue Cutler, Peter LeBlanc, Sid Dolgay and more! Don Cullen is hosting. If you like to sing along to old folk tunes this is the show for you…we’re dusting off a few of our old faves to play that night!

Sat., June 18, House Concert in support of ‘The Weekend to End Women’s Cancers 2011’, Waterloo, ON; By Invitation

Thu., June 23, 7:30pm, Fellowship Towers, Toronto, ON; Private function for residents; We’ve played a few shows at FT and the folks are awesome!

Tues., June 28, 8-11pm, Free Times Cafe, 320 College St., Toronto, ON; $6; with Marianne Girard www.mariannegirard.com and The Sweet Peas www.myspace.com/thesweetpeasmusic; We are very excited to be part of this amazing line up of performers playing at the legendary Free Times Cafe, a staple on the Toronto roots music scene for three decades. It’s a great little club for an intimate evening of music. The food is delicious so plan to have dinner while you enjoy the show! http://www.freetimescafe.com

OTHER STUFF…

- Our applications for another year of subway busking have been submitted. Next step is the auditions in August. In the meantime I’m continuing to busk up a storm. I write about my adventures on Facebook and it’s been suggested that it might make for an interesting book. So I’ve started compiling all my bits and pieces. Any suggestions on how to proceed from there would be most appreciated!

- We were pleasantly surprised to see a little financial activity in our SOCAN Accounts for music played on CBC (Prairie Girl on CBC MB last year) and a few other commercial stations. Good motivation though for us to ask all our friends to request our music on your favourite programs. CBC has both our CDs in their library…hint hint ;)

- We are starting to think about recording our next CD!

Thanks to all of you for continuing to support our music endeavours!
